I remember being in college in the mid 00s, and I HAD to have my record player with me, I Was the only one outside of another person in my dorm that had an actual phonograph and this was when ipods were exploding in popularity and itunes was the way to listen to music, which I used too.īut I had to have my necessity crates of 'desert island' discs and also decorated my room with throws on the wall and vintage rock and film posters and colored lights and a nice second hand soga and baja blankets on the ceiling, and granted this was a private christian college (now university) and about 2005 or 6 and I remember going to Cheapo records and used record stores and getting first pressings for a few bucks back then, maybe would break into double digits if it was extra rare, but this was before discogs as we know it today so people just priced based on condition and perceived rarity, not some massive online networked community of price keepers, so I scored a ton of my collection during this era before the big vinyl boom of cultural and social popularity that would come to follow in the years onward. I havent collected or been in the market for a year or so but its wild how astronomical the prices for some records have gotten in the last few years even since the recent vinyl boom of the last decade. (late response Im aware), but yes, dont pay for that much for those albums that arent as rare as they are being sold as.

When people stop rush buying them en masse, I dont get why a record I used to see for at most 35 bucks for years at record stores is now $99 dont feed album scalpers, dont let the perception of an albbum being in a collection or a need to have a pressing be a cause for breaking ones proverbial bank unnecessarily.
